Any Ideas?

Alyssa-Joy's angelversary is approaching (November 29th). Already, I am dreading that day as well as the days prior that started the chain of devastating events. Simply thinking about these dates throws me into extreme anxiety.
I am going to do the traditional balloon release, but I want to do something unique as well. Any suggestions?

Where is my expected end?

  1. I can only imagine that this is hard. I am dreading Jenna's angelversary. I hope you Alyssa-Joy's is special. A few things you could do is donate something to the hospital where she was born in her name. I read that once, and they had collected hundreds of teddy bears and gave them to the hospital department where that child was (I want to say the child died due to cancer). It was a beautiful story because the gifts touched so many and the child was still remembered. If going to the hospital is hard (which I totally understand) you could try to get a star named after your angel. I hear that it can be done.

I don't know, I have never done it, but it seems like a sweet idea.

Another idea would be to celebrate it with others close to you. I recently read a beautiful tribute to a baby girl named Shiloh who just reached her first angelversary.

The pictures are so so beautiful and it was held at a special place. I hope you have the time to look through the pictures, they gave me something to look forward to (I hope that doesn't sound weird).

I know whatever you decide, it will be a bittersweet but memorable day. Lots of (((HUGS)))

  2. Nope, I am so not creative :) I ended up just spending the day at home, mostly blogging and reading, just kind of taking time for myself and my memories. We just did little things - stopped for milk shakes, in place of a cake, since I swore those babies loved milkshakes! Watched their u/s video, flipped through their scrapbook of ultrasounds. . . it was nice. But definitely not creative or unique :) Hope others have some ideas for you. I know it can be an anxious time.

  3. I haven't gotten to the angelversary yet, but for Leila's due date, I did a potluck for the staff of the Maternity unit at the hospital, and it was most gratefully received! I also handed out March of Dimes rubber bracelets, and asked my friend Anita to take some pictures of my family with her urn. You can check out the pictures on my blog, October.

Sending you hugs and prayers, Marie. I don;t comment much, but I've been lurking and loving your blog for months. :)

  4. Things that I am thinking of doing for Jonathan leading up to his one year birthday are of course a balloon release, I want to plant a garden for him as well. I found a website that sells personalized stepping stones so I want to get one of those with Jonathan's name on it and put it in the garden. Donating to a charity in Alyssa's name is perfect as well. Whatever you decide to do is right for you. *huge hus* I am thinking of you and praying for you.

  5. I did a birthday party for Lily. I baked cupcakes and made giftbags for all of my family members. We also did the balloon release which was especially emotional for me.

I hope you are able to combine some of the suggestions together and come up with something really special for your sweet baby girl.

  6. I am just now getting to the my due date (Thanksgiving Day), but have had a few ideas. One is doing random acts of kindness in your child's name. You can get kindness cards at
http://www.missfoundation.org/kindness/index.html or make some of your own. That website also has stories of things parents have done in memory of their children.
Tomorrow is the day I was scheduled for a c-section. I have made care packages for mommies who deliver a stillborn baby and will be delivering those to the hospital tomorrow.

I hope you find a way to remember Alyssa-Joy that is special to you.

  7. Two things I plan on doing sometime is naming a star after Carleigh and doing a message in a bottle.

  8. We have their special dinners, make a birthday cake, donate in their memories, and go somewhere special.
