Normal and some more questions

I had what was supposed to be my last appointment with the MFM yesterday. He declared that I was/am NORMAL!!!!!!!!!!! Praise God! We did elect to see him one more time even though he was willing to release us. We will be seeing him in two weeks for a "peace of mind" appointment and for a 3D ultrasound. Cervix measured 3.6 cm!!!! Spencer passed his BPP, cord flow was perfect, organs were perfect, everything was perfect. God is so good and we are in awe of his blessings.

Thanks for the suggestions about choosing a Pediatrician. We have an appointment with one next week and we now have tons of questions to ask. I also have some more questions tonight. I tried getting them answered, but kept getting conflicting information. So..... I am asking all of you!

1.) I am packing my hospital bag this week (yikes!). I know what to pack for me, but what about for baby?
2.) What's the usual stay in the hospital for a C-section? (MFM told me 4 days, OB told me 2)
3.) When do I put the car seat in the car?
4.) Hospital tour? Necessary or unnecessary?
5.) Nursing Bras - do I buy a size bigger than I am now or my regular size?
6.) How many onesies/blankets/bibs do I pack for the baby?
Thanks in advance!

Awaiting my expected end,
Marie

  1. I'm SOOO excited for you!! btw...we love our pediatrician! He is in P.Pines if you want his name let me know!

Now, I didn't go through the experience myself, but here is what I learned the weekend we adopted J:

1.) On day two the nurse asked me, "What do you want the baby to wear? I was under the impression that the hospital had little onsies until we put her in her going home outfit. Just in case, I'd pack a couple extra outfits. They will give you everything else you need...diapers, wipes, formula (if you need it), recieving blankets, hats, etc. You may want to bring little mittens for his hands.
2.) J's birth mom had a c-section and she was discharged after two days.
3.) If you don't need the extra room in the back seat, I'd say do it now! Better safe than sorry! :)

    YAY! It's almost here! :) :) :)

  3. That cousin of mine (Kelli) is a smart little Momma! I had c-sections with all of my kids and the hospital stay was 2 nights and discharged on 3rd day with all of them.
Baby: The hospital will provide everything the baby needs but the "clothes" are normally a long sleeve tee and 2 swaddle blankets. I would suggest taking gowns for him to wear in the hospital. They are easier for diaper changes AND for the 400 peaks you are going to want to take of those sweet little toes :) You may want to take an outfit for his nursery pics and his coming home outfit (if they aren't the same outfit). You will only need a blanket to bring him home in unless he has a special one you just want him to have in the hospital. You shouldn't need bibs or burp clothes either.
Carseat: If you are anything like me, you will not trust anyone else putting the carseat in (if I did it, I "knew" it was right). I agree with Kelli, if you have the room (and especially if you are going to use an infant carrier base) I would go ahead and do it now. You can usually have the installation inspected (police stations do it in TN) to make sure they are installed correctly and secure.
Hospital Tour: If this is a hospital you are familiar with, I wouldn't bother. My son was born in a new facility and without the tour I wouldn't have been able to find the nurses station!
    So excited for you!

  4. 1.) An outfit to come home in and, maybe, a receiving blanket. The hospital has a lot.
2.) What's the usual stay in the hospital for a C-section? (MFM told me 4 days, OB told me 2)I c/s'ed on Thursday night and was released Monday night.
3.) When do I put the car seat in the car? The base should go in whenever. At our hospital, a nurse watched you put the baby in the carseat in the hospital and then watched you put it in the car.
4.) Hospital tour? Necessary or unnecessary? Totally up to you. I didnt, but I'd been there before.
5.) Nursing Bras - do I buy a size bigger than I am now or my regular size? Mine were sized to my regular bra.
6.) How many onesies/blankets/bibs do I pack for the baby? At the hospital? 3 per day. Plus sleepers.

  5. 1. pack whatever you want for baby. :) The hospital has everything you need, but I always bring a variety of clothes b/c I like to dress them cute while we are there. I usually bring a couple different sizes too.

    2. haven't had one, but here it is 2 nights/3 days

    3. anytime. :) Usually when I pack my bag

    4. never had a tour with any of mine

    5. wait until your milk comes in and settles in to get one, otherwise you will prob have to go buy another one. You can buy one that fits now, and it should work for a little while.

    6. I pretty answered that one in #1. I think I packed more with each one. LOL Anything I might possibily want or think that I need.

Praying for you!!! I love seeing your name on my preggo mommy prayer board. :)

  6. As far as for the baby, I think everyone covered it. I usually take a couple of outfits to dress them in while there. The hospital has onsies they put on them and blankets which are GREAT for swaddling! I would bring one or two home if I were you! Just bring a special blanket for going home day as well as an outfit! Take pacis if you plan on using them. Also take something to hang on your door announcing a boy if you want to do that (a bow or such).
The stay depends on your doctor. With Eli my doctor let me go a day early because of the situation. I was there from Sun. to Tues. (Two full days) Normally it is three days. If you are having a c-section just remember the sooner that you get up moving, the better you will feel. I know it sounds stange, but getting up stretching, sitting in a chair, walking around, getting a bath, are all things that helped me feel better. You get really stiff if you just do not get up. That being said, take it easy doing those things, but do them.

    Hope this info helps some!
It is going to be here before you know it!!!

  7. With Noah is was in the hospital 5 days. Day 1 was me laboring, the remainder of the days followed and emergency c-section. With Amelia - planned c-section - the let us leave on the Friday following a Wed am c-section. We should have stayed 1 more day but they let us leave because of the situation. :(
I had to come back to my doctors office to have them remove the staples on Monday.

They really do have everything you need at the hospital for baby. Don't waste space in your luggage on diapers or pads!

I would put the carseat in now. :)

I really liked the nursing tanks. :)
I just bought my reg size.

  9. I remember the day the high-risk doctor was like, yeah-I'm kicking you out.
It felt so amazing and honestly, a little scary, because I liked the extra attention.
I'm so, so so happy for you!!!
I skipped the hospital tour because it gave me so much anxiety.
I had a 3 day stay for my c-section. Best advice for that is to get up and walk as soon as you can handle to try. Take stool softener!!!!
I just packed a few onesies and a going home outfit. They have blankets, hats, diapers, etc. I chose to have her wear the onesies I wanted :)

  11. 2.) What's the usual stay in the hospital for a C-section? (MFM told me 4 days, OB told me 2) Count on 4 and 2 will be a nice surprise.
3.) When do I put the car seat in the car? These can be hard to properly install, I would do it soon and then practice getting the detachable seat in and out.
4.) Hospital tour? Necessary or unnecessary? That depends on you. I would be more comfortable with a tour.

  12. Congrats luv! You've given me so much hope! I regularly read your blog and have had you in my prayers for so long. I'm still waiting on the Lord and know that I'll be happy soon.

  13. Marie, isn't it so amazing when the doctor tells you that you are a normal pregnant woman? I remember hearing that and couldn't believe a doctor was telling me that. LOL

1.) I am packing my hospital bag this week (yikes!). I know what to pack for me, but what about for baby?

Coming home outfit. The hospital will supply clothing and blankets as well as diapers and wipes.

2.) What's the usual stay in the hospital for a C-section? (MFM told me 4 days, OB told me 2)

It really depends on your situation. I had a c-section. Joshua was born on Weds night and I was released Sat morning so three nights for me. I think everyone is different though. I would say case by case basis.

3.) When do I put the car seat in the car?

We put the carseat in the car around 36 weeks. If you are packing your hospital bag, it may not be a bad idea to do it now so you are ready to go. :)

4.) Hospital tour? Necessary or unnecessary?

    I didn't do one.

5.) Nursing Bras - do I buy a size bigger than I am now or my regular size?

I went by the bra size listed with the manufacturer.

6.) How many onesies/blankets/bibs do I pack for the baby?
I didn't pack any of the above for the baby. In his car seat he had a "bundle me." We are from New England so he had to keep warm. You may just need a light blanket to bring him home in.

    Hope that helps! :)

  14. Glad to be back here! Sorry it has been so long!

1.) I packed a going home outfit and a onesie, hats, and booties. I just used the hospital onesies while we were there. And I brought a blanket too.
2.) I think most insurances pay for 72 hours at least.
3.) We put it in a week or two before?
4.) If you are unfamiliar w/ the hospital then I would take a tour.
5.) Buy bigger! My breast size went up a cup once I started nursing.
6.) i packed 1 onesie and 1 blanket and no bibs
